1999 Infiniti QX4Question: 1999 Infiniti QX4 mileage 236,640 engine size V6. I usually do a full overall mainteance on this car every year except this year 2008 I've only changed the oil regularly. The service engine light came on today. What does it mean? - Charlotte, September 2008

Answer: Hi Charolotte. The service engine light has come on to tell you that something needs attention. The next step is to connect the vehicle up to a code reader and read the trouble codes stored in the vehicle's computer. You have a few options. You can take the QX4 to AutoZone and they'll read the code(s) for free. Or you can buy a code reader, or take it to a trusted technician. Without those codes, I can't recommend any specific actions to take.

Although the mileage is up there, it's obvious that you've taken good care of the SUV. So I wouldn't expect major problems. It could be as simple as a loose gas cap. Good luck!

1998 Infiniti I30Question: 1998 ifinity I30 76,000 miles v6.I have just replaced spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter. The light came on before the work was done by me. Gerald - September, 2008

Answer: Hi Gerald. Do you know what the trouble code is? Read this article - [What to do when the check engine light comes on]. It should give you a good place to start. You need the trouble code(s) stored in the car's computer in order to figure out what/where the problem lies. Without the code, no matter what parts you replace you will still be just guessing on what the issue is. Until the issue is properly fixed the light will remain on. Good luck!

2002 Infiniti I35Question: I have a 2002 Infiniti i35 it has 53512 miles. a service engine soon light came on . I own a scan tool got a code. it is P0021 Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2) is this some thing that a could repair my self or would I need to take it to a repair shop - Esquivel, August 2008

Answer: Hi Esquivel, thanks for the question. This P0021 trouble code refers to the components of the continuously variable valve timing (VVT) system (new for 2002 3.5L engine). Potential causes could include incorrect camshaft timing, the VVT valve/solenoid could be working improperly (stuck, etc.). There could be other potential VVT related components that have failed as well. If you're up for the task, be sure to get a good (OEM) repair manual and read up before taking anything apart. Good luck!
